Located in Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Skye View is situated on a quiet lane within its own private gardens close to Airdrie town centre.
It is close to many bus routes, as well as only being a short distance from both Airdrie train station and motorways.
Skye View Care Centre provides specialised dementia care in a dementia friendly environment. Our philosophy is to enable residents to have as much independence as possible. We do this through the design of the physical environment and by the special training and skills our staff have.
You will notice that there are a lot of bold contrasting colours used throughout the centre. You will see multi-coloured doors, bright red handrails and even red toilet seats! These might not be to everyone’s personal taste; but you won’t be able to deny that it makes these items stand out. This is important as many people who have dementia can have reduced eye-sight, so bright contrasting colours can be easier to see. There are many other examples of enabling which go on throughout the centre, so don’t hesitate to ask a member of staff if you are interested in how the home is designed.
All the care staff who work in the Skye View Care Centre have specialised dementia training. Knowledge of dementia and how best to enable independence is continually improving, and our staff are aware of this. Each member of staff has a continuous training development plan to keep their skills and knowledge up to date.
All rooms within Skye View are single with shower en-suite facilities. We have several very large rooms which can be converted to companion room for anyone who wishes to share with a spouse, family member or friend.
Each bedroom has uniquely coloured door to aid in identification. They come fully furnished with a specialist electric profiling bed which is designed for dementia care.
We will endeavour to provide 24 hour holistic care to Specialised Dementia residents in a supportive and comfortable environment. It is our objective to promote independence and help resident reach their maximum potential. We will ensure that their wellbeing, privacy and dignity are maintained at all times. We actively promote resident and relative participation in all aspects of our service.
Each resident at Skye View is viewed and treated as an individual. We involve our residents in making decisions that affect them.
An individual care plan is created after consultation with you, your family and friends and will cover social, medial requirements. It will be regularly reviewed and updated with your likes and dislikes.
Activities play an important role in day-to-day life within the home. There are individual personalised activities as well as group activities.
Before admission to Skye View an assessment would be undertaken by both the Social Work Department and one of our care staff. This would ensure the suitability of the placement.
Trial visits or periods of respite can be arrange to see if you like the home.
Fees depend on the level of care required and your local council.
As we are a new unit we have still to be formally inspected by the Care Commission and given our grading.
